Archeological Site at St. Pierre's Cathedral
Discover the rich history behind one of Geneva's most prominent churches at Archeological Site at St. Pierre's Cathedral. Construction works carried out in the 1980s accidently uncovered a plethora of ancient artifacts at this site, dating as far back as the Roman Empire. These have been carefully examined and curated to provide visitors with a remarkable insight into the city's history and the past of this important building. Witness remnants of the basilica that once stood here, including the Roman crypt, monk's cells, and allobrogian tomb. For a more in-depth tour, pick up one of the audio headsets at the cathedral's entrance. In the basement of the cathedral, this site is open to the public. The remains of churches pre-dating the Cathedral are hidden beneath this ancient building, the oldest dating back to the 4th century. more »

This archeological site is at the basement of the St Pierre Church. The place is well lit and interesting. The audio guide was very helpful in explaining the different places inside. more »

This is a very nice museum that will take you back in time before the reformation to the very first settlements in the city. Unfortunately it is easy to miss. The entrance is at the right side of St. Pierre's cathedral. The ticket is 8 francs. I spend there 1 1/2 hours. This museums will make you experience archeological work at first hand. Recommended!

It is archaeological site of St. Pierre Cathedral. Nice exhibits. This cathedral in Geneva was built as a Roman Catholic cathedral. It became a Reformed Protestant Church of Geneva church during the reformation. John Calvin's chair is one of the main attraction in the church.
