Basilica of the Holy Blood
Basilica of the Holy Blood is best known for containing the relic of the Holy Blood, a cloth alleged to have Christ's blood on it. The relic dates to 1150, when Derrick of Alsace, the Count of Flanders, received the relic as a reward for his heroism during the second crusade. Built in the 12th century, this is the only Romanesque-style church in Bruges. The upper chapel has been renovated several times in a Gothic Revival style. Enter the lower chapel to view the ornate naves, sculptures, and relics dedicated to several saints. Climb the Renaissance-style staircase to the upper chapel, where you'll find the relic of the Holy Blood. Beautiful chapel which was free to get in. A donation is suggested if you wish to view the vial of Jesus' blood which seems fair enough. Can't take photos of Jesus' blood, but can take photos inside..... more

Great example of an ornate Romanesque church, definitely should be included on any Bruges city walk. The added attraction is a “holy vial of Christ’s blood” which is on display.

We came across the Basilica while exploring the town and being in the square. You can enter 2 out of 3 rooms for free. While worth a visit if you are in the square.

This is an amazing place that allegedly preserves the Holy Blood of our Lord Jesus. Came there multiple times and literally cried over the blood soaked stuff kept in what seemed like a tube. Hope it was real so I did not shed tears for something fake.
