Create an itinerary including Burg Meersburg
Though much of Burg Meersburg, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, is occupied by the descendants of Carl Mayer von Mayerfels, more than 30 decorated rooms are open to the public. Discover what the fortress would have looked like in the Middle Ages as you wander through the armory, bathhouse, kitchen, knights' hall, and dungeon. Important German poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff lived here from 1841 to 1848, and you can see her living quarters and the room where she died. The tour includes access to one of the castle's towers with views of the Lower City and surrounding area. End your visit with a cup of coffee and a sweet from the onsite cafe in a grand Baroque hall. Guided tours are available in German. Audio guides are available in English. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Meersburg (Bodensee) holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Burg Meersburg and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It’s a very beautiful castle which dominates the little, pretty town of Meersburg; it’s very well-kept and rich of furniture. It’s a good way to learn about life in the Middle Ages.

  • Too expensive for quick walk around. Most parts are blocked off, hardly to near no info written any where. We had seen it all within 20 minutes. This place isn’t even worth seeing on a rainy day...

  • Great castle with a great view of Lake Constance. Lots of historic memorabilia and info about castle life in Middle Ages. Kids will be sure to enjoy collection of spears and knights' armour (panoply).
  • It was very good place to visit, we can take a boat ride to the city with a full crowd of people filled with food street's, vine yards, museums and a fort. Ofcourse you need to pay to visit all these. It was good going there and experiencing a boat ride.
