You can fly from Chiang Mai to Krabi Town in 3.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In July in Krabi Town, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 27°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Fri) so you can go by car to Karon.

Quieter than nearby Patong Beach, the resort town of Karon offers a wide stretch of golden sand, which attracts mostly couples and families.

Take a break from the city and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Freedom Beach. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Karon Viewpoint and The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GRP). There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Patong Beach, take some stellar pictures from Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), stop by Niphon's Rich Collection, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Kata Beach.
