Kuching — 2 nights

Cat City

A state capital, Kuching offers access to the surrounding landscape on a range of ecotours through national parks and reserves.
Step out of Kuching to go to Bau and see Fairy Caves, which is approximately 1h 5 min away. There's lots more to do: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, make a trip to Kuching Esplanade, examine the collection at Cat Museum, and admire the natural beauty at Sarawak Orchid Garden.

Kuala Lumpur to Kuching is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. In December, daily temperatures in Kuching can reach 37°C, while at night they dip to 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Tue) early enough to catch the flight back home.

Land of the Hornbills
Sarawak, one of two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo, is known for its geographical diversity. Visitors come to hike across the state's national parks, areas of protected natural diversity that include interesting rock and cave formations, as well as plentiful native plant and animal life (including the proboscis monkey, only found on the island). The landscape features everything from virgin coastal forest to cloud-covered highlands. Urban areas offer cultural sites related to the diverse communities that have settled in the state from across continental Asia. Rural communities here reveal the separateness of the island from mainstream Malaysian culture with idiosyncratic ceremonies, architecture, and local cuisines.
