Salzburg Region travel guide

Salzburg Region, known as Salzburgerland, sits in the heart of Austria, but has a distinct culture and history that sets it apart from the rest of the country. Due to centuries as an independent Prince-Bishopric, this area stretching along the Salzach River offers different traditions for tourists to explore. Icons of high culture--including Mozart, the Salzburg Festival, and the play "Everyman"--draw visitors, as do rural Alpine lakes and Europe's highest waterfalls. Like other parts of Austria, this region offers a plethora of urban entertainment, historical sites, and outdoor activities.
